iPhone 5 Reaches Final Testing Phase

A rumor surfaced on Mac news site 9to5Mac today regarding Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone - dubbed both the iPhone 5 and also the iPhone 4S depending on whom you suspect - and how they have reached a final “AP” testing stage. “The next generation iPhone has reached the final testing stage (aka “AP” stage [Thanks, Chronic!]) and is also now being carried around by advanced Apple and carrier executives,” the report noted.

Whispers have steadily pointed at a September launch for Apple’s next iPhone handset, that your report seems to confirm: “Although it's been assumed because the no-iPhone-at-WWDC-rumors broke, the existing plan is to get a September launch for your next-generation iPhone.” Apple continues to be tight lipped concerning the next iPhone, but it’s widely thought that the handset will debut sometime this fall.

Your website also noted some additional discoveries that they made whilst snooping through the recently-released first beta of Apple’s iOS 5 mobile operating system. Apparently iOS refers to 2 internal code names for New iphone 4 models - N93 and N94 - which have not yet been released. The N94 device is the current apple iphone 4g handset that has been upgraded with a dual-core A5 processor - just like the one that’s found in the iPad 2. Astute readers may recall this device as being found by iOS app developers back April. The N93 device is unknown, but it’s likely that it’s some type of carrier derivative of the N94 handset - perhaps destined for Sprint, or packing a “world phone” GSM + CDMA combination chipset. For reference, Apple’s GSM iPhone 4 is listed since the N90, as well as the Verizon CDMA handset will be the N92.

These are Verizon - it appears that all will not be well for the FaceTime front for those who have acquired a CDMA iPhone. The identical 9to5Mac report claims that “Apple and Verizon haven't yet strike an offer regarding FaceTime over 3G to the Verizon network,” continuing with “Keep planned that 3G and 4G aren’t a similar thing. < Don’t read into that too much. Or maybe do.>” It’s already well-known that Apple and Verizon still need yet to sort out a number of issues with Apple’s planned over-the-air updating system which will be contained in iOS 5; it’s feasible that FaceTime could possibly be another kink that requires ironing out between Cupertino and Big Red.

Finally, rounding out your rumors surrounding another iPhone is but one that it's going to be keeping the same five-megapixel rear camera which is based in the current iPhone model. Many recent rumors was pointing to comments that Sony’s CEO had made, seemingly confirming that Sony can be supplying Apple with eight-megapixel sensors for the next iPhone. It’s possible that the iOS Software Development Kit files that contained the camera information for one more models of iPhone is inaccurate, or perhaps not updated. Apple is, obviously, mum on everything.

Time will tell which of the rumors becoming reality - if any. Right now the one thing that’s clear about the launch of the next iPhone handset is the wait gets shorter, eventually at the same time.
